March Madness: The Month of Nutrition and Sleep

What can massage do for you and your nutrition goals? Nutrition, as everyone is aware of, is very important to staying healthy. When you eat something, your body uses the nutrients contained in the food as fuel to power you through the day. Massage can help your body to absorb these nutrients easier by activating your “rest and digest” system. So, if your stomach growls during a massage it’s totally normal, as that’s just your body relaxing and digesting! When you eat good nutrition, you have more energy to do the things you need to do, and if you don’t eat nutritious foods, or eat too much food, you can feel sluggish or unmotivated to do anything.

Fun Fact: National Sleep Awareness Week is March 8th- 14th

Sleep is also important when nutrition is involved because it’s the time when your body is in its finishing stages of digestion. Massage can help aid in digestion and also help you get a better quality of sleep.

Stress is one of the main causes of poor nutrition as well as poor sleep. When you have high levels of stress it is always easier to grab that quart of ice cream you hide behind the frozen veggies then to grab a healthier snack. Stress cravings are a thing. Finding ways to reduce your stress can help make it easier to make better food choices. Everyone is different in what they find relaxing, whether it’s learning a new skill or hobby, exercising, or meditating, to name a few. Therapeutic massages also are helpful for relaxation and are scientifically proven to decrease stress levels which makes it easier to eat better and get that good night’s sleep you crave!
